A staggering 22 years separate the first book (1722), composed in Köthen, from the second (1744) composed in Leipzig of Johann Sebastian Bach's Clavicembalo ben temperato.
Each book contains 24 pairs of pieces, which are divided into a prelude and a fugue in the same key. The first pair is in C major, the second in C minor, the third in C♯ major, the fourth in C♯ minor, and so on.
Adding to the numerous recordings is this one by Ero Maria Barbero, who re-proposes, with a Granziera harpsichord, a new version that is absolutely unmissable for the clarity and analytical richness of the individual pieces: emotions that we rarely get to experience from a work intended by the author for teaching activities.
