comment établir un lien entre le poète français  de génie (1821-1867) et la musique afro-américaine, née pas moins d'un demi-siècle après sa mort? Cette rencontre impossible nécessite une sensibilité visionnaire associée à une connaissance approfondie de la poésie et de la musique dont il est question. Des qualités que possèdent le pianiste-compositeur Gerardo Iacoucci et la chanteuse Paola Massero, qui a longtemps enseigné le français et entretient une relation privilégiée avec la langue et la littérature transalpines. Pour cette « invitation au voyage à la découverte de synesthésies suggestives », selon les mots de Paola Massero, il fallait une occasion. En 2018, l'enseignante a été invitée à « La Forza della Poesia », une initiative culturelle promue en collaboration avec deux universités romaines, qui consacrait sa VIIIe édition à Charles Baudelaire.

Charles Baudelaire and jazz:
how can one meaningfully relate the genius of the French poet (1821–1867) to a musical language of African-American origin that emerged more than half a century after his death? Such an impossible encounter, demands a combination of profound knowledge of both poetry and music. These qualities are embodied by the pianist and composer Gerardo Iacoucci and the vocalist Paola Massero, who taught French for many years and thus cultivated a privileged relationship with the language and literature of France. This “invitation to a journey of discovery through evocative synesthetic correspondences,” in Massero’s words, required an appropriate occasion. In 2018, she was invited to take part in La Forza della Poesia (“The Power of Poetry”), a cultural initiative in its eighth edition, dedicated to Baudelaire and promoted in collaboration with two Roman universities.
