And to think that Ravel did not feel like a pianist, or rather, he did not feel like a pianist in the 19th-century sense of the term: that is, one of those musicians who first thinks about his composition for the piano and then about the orchestra. He was more willing to switch from the colour palette of the orchestra to the black and white of the piano. But inevitably these orchestral colours remained entangled in this transition and such are the results of Roberto Cominati's interpretation, which succeeds in the miracle of revealing the secrets of each individual score: profound, analytical and intense, he knows how to make his own visions coincide with those of Ravel. All the colours of Ravel's musical rainbow are present here, even if the keys are still the black and white ones of a piano keyboard. Ravel's piano work stops in 1920 with La valse. From that year until his death in 1937 Ravel wrote no further compositions for piano.
