Ensemble CONCERTO

Taking the name Monteverdi gave to his Settimo Libro di Madrigali, Roberto Gini formed the ensemble "Concerto" in 1985, a group of voices and instruments particularly devoted to the repertoire of the 16th and 17th centuries. After a first successful series of recordings with music by Claudio Monteverdi (Tactus, 1987-1991), the ensemble, for the novelty of its interpretation and the precision of its performance, is called a "point of reference" on the international scene, and critics call its productions "cultural events."

In 1991 the ensemble, for the first time with chamber orchestra musicians, released a historic complete recording of "L'Estro Armonico" on the occasion of Vivaldi's anniversary, combined with a special issue of Amadeus magazine dedicated to the Venetian musician, now distributed by AULICUS in the "Amadeus best" series.

As part of its important concert and recording activity, the group is notable in numerous productions of considerable interest related to Roberto Gini's research activity, which confirm the ensemble's prominent position in the international music scene. Among the many stand out the first complete recording of the "VII libro di madrigali" (1989) and the "Selva Morale & Spirituale" (1993) by Claudio Monteverdi; the rediscovery and first ever recording of the collection "Affetti Musici" by Giulio Cesare Monteverdi (the only printed collection of works by Claudio's brother); "La Maddalena ai piedi di Cristo" by Giovanni Bononcini (record winner of the International Record Prize of the G. Cini of Venezia in 1999), the recording of Monteverdi's sacred music not included in the three printed collections of 1610, 1640 and 1651 (including two previously unpublished compositions recorded as world premieres: Gloria for 8 voices and Confitebor for 4 voices) as well as the 1610 collection that includes the "Vespro della beata Vergine" and the "Missa In illo tempore."

Roberto Gini and his ensemble have entered into a new collaboration with AULICUS CLASSICS in whose catalog there are already new titles dedicated, so far, to instrumental music.
